  • Big Daddy is Glympsing

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of BlackBerry. Yes, I know that BlackBerry are currently unfashionable and it’s apparently (judging by the media) the ‘in thing’ to bash BlackBerry at the moment, but I’ve been using their phones for the last 5 or 6 years, and I’ve always been happy with them. That said, one of the big selling points of BlackBerry has traditionally been BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), which I’ve never been a particularly big user of – not least because I didn’t really know that many people who were also using BlackBerry devices (and the number has been… Read more

  • BlackBerry Crumble

Last week my beloved BlackBerry Z10 bricked on me. I have no idea why, but after the alarm waking me up as normal (and switching on my Sonos system and playing NPR automatically), the red notification light started blinking almost constantly and I couldn’t get it to power on. I tried a battery pull, recharging it, trying another battery, but nothing. I tried connecting it to my PC, but BlackBerry Link failed to detect it. A quick scan of the forums (fora?) suggested a hardware issue. So that was that. I spent the rest of the day realizing how much… Read more

  • You are not free to roam…

I recently bit the bullet and bought the BlackBerry Bold I’d coveted for so long.  One of the primary drivers was that I’m due to spend a fair bit of time in Japan this year, and I wanted a phone that I could use over there.  My first trip is fast approaching (next week), and as part of my preparations, I thought I’d check the details of my ‘phone plan.  Sadly, it appears that although my ‘phone will technically work in Japan, actually using it there is a whole ‘nother ball game. To start with, AT&T list the international roaming charges in Japan… Read more

  • AT&T Suck Ass

A while back, I decided I wanted to upgrade to a BlackBerry.  I prefer to communicate in writing rather than on the ‘phone, but find that I don’t communicate as much as I should because I can’t be arsed to get off the sofa and walk upstairs to my study and log on to my PC every time I need to fire off an e-mail.  I reasoned that if I could check/send emails from the comfort of my armchair there was more chance of me doing it. Plus, I now get proofreading work assignments via email and I like to… Read more

  • Hangin’ On The Telephone

OK, today’s pet peeve is the piped music you get when you’re put on hold on the telephone.  I’m in work, it’s 2:15 AM, and we’re working a serious system issue.  There are about two dozen of us, physically located everywhere from Guatemala through USA to Belgium, and several points inbetween, and all on the same conference call.  Now some idiot has put the call ‘on hold’ which means that the rest of us get piped music blaring out.  And because the cheapo conference call system we have here hands the ‘talking stick’ to one person at a time, and… Read more
