Falling foul of liable laws
A month or so back, my 16-year-old daughter had another car accident. This was her second within a six month period, as a consequence of which I tool her car away (for the second time) and this time also took her off my insurance (before the insurance company likely dropped her themselves) – which really did not go down well. The damage wasn’t actually too bad (compared to the first accident, where she totalled the other car – a BMW Z3), but as I only have basic insurance and my insurance company determined the accident was 100% my daughter’s fault,… Read more

(Not-so-)instant “car”ma’s gonna get you…
So, although – as I suspected – switching to a new, subdued gray car from a bright yellow one has significantly reduced the number of speeding tickets I get (none in the two years I’ve had it, vs. one a year in the yellow car), it does seem to have increased the number of people who want to drive into me (three in two years, vs. one in six years). In this latest incident (a couple of months ago – I was waiting for closure, but I’m sadly still waiting…) some asshole side-swiped me. So we don’t run foul of… Read more

He gets pulled over by the police, but you’ll never believe what happened next!
Well, I guess it was inevitable, but I finally earned myself another traffic ticket. This is almost 3 years after my last ticket, which is a personal record, so I guess I can’t complain. But, surprise, surprise, it wasn’t for speeding! Which itself is a minor miracle, as I was going 85 mph as I passed the copper who pulled me over… In my defense, I was actually just trying to put a bit of distance between me and the asshole who seemed determined to have his truck mount my car and produce a mini. Though to be fair to… Read more

I can only receive; I can listen to you
So I finally bought myself a new car. And a new, new car at that; it had exactly 2 miles on the clock when I bought it. This is the first car (out of 9) that I’ve bought that wasn’t pre-owned. It will probably also be the only new car I buy, as I intend on driving this one into the ground. Much as I did to my last car – although that’s not completely driven into the ground (yet), as my eldest has claimed it as his own (despite not being able to get a full license for another… Read more

Keep On Truckin’
A couple of weeks ago I was at Reliant Stadium for a football game. This weekend I was back at the same venue for an entirely different type of ‘sporting’ event – a monster truck rally. This is actually my fourth or fifth, but I hasten to add that it has always been for the benefit of the kids. Honest. The two boys have both been into monster trucks, but this time it was Freya who seemed most keen on going. Must be the Texan in her blood (she was born here…). Last time I was here we were bussed… Read more
