Black Boys on Mopeds
I’m in Manchester (England, not North Carolina) for the week, facilitating a Knowledge Management workshop. For those not in the know, Knowledge Management basically involves defining and implementing a strategy for capturing an organization’s knowledge (which may be on LANs, paper, individual PCs, or in people’s brains), organizing this so that the information can easily be found, and sticking it all somewhere that everyone who needs it has access to it. I guess it’s not much of an issue in a small company, but when you’ve got several hundred people who are globally distributed (principally Manchester, Bangkok, and Guatemala) who… Read more

Raising the (Chocolate) Bar
For some reason I’ve got this real craving for Toffos. Unfortunately, being some 10,000 miles from the nearest packet, it’s likely to remain unsatiated. Despite globalization and the flattening of the world, some things just don’t seem to travel intercontinentally – and sweets (candy, snoep, what you will) seems to be one of them. Although there’s not much I miss about England, sweets are something I certainly do. Not enough to move back there, you understand, but enough to give me pangs of nostalgia. Or of hunger. It’s difficult to tell, this late in the afternoon.
