A year ago today, my ex wife killed herself. At the time, we had been divorced for five or six years and I had custody of our three kids, so aside from the shock, there was little practical impact on our daily life – just a lot of mental goings on. Asset Retirement vs. Depreciation
Maybe it’s an age thing, but recently I’ve noticed that a lot of my fellow workers (or at least the full-time employees) are starting to talk about how long they’ve got until retirement. Like seriously talking about it, even though it’s 11 years away or something. They’ve probably got countdown apps on their iPhones that wake them up every morning: “You have 4,000 days left to retirement”. He not busy being born…
This week another old (old established, not old aged) friend of mine died.   I hadn’t seen her in at least a couple of years – mainly because I have been living out of the country, but I still considered her a close friend. She’s the third one in the same group of friends who have died since I left England. Shit, I’m too young (at 39) to be scanning the obituaries already.
