Now this<\/span> is why I love technology.\u00c2\u00a0 This weekend I picked up an Apple AirPort.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 This is handy little gadget that lets you connect your PC to your stereo wirelessly. It’s a pretty good device, and in theory very simple to set up – it will effectively set up a home wireless network for you just by plugging it in. Unfortunately I already have<\/em> a wireless network, which kind of confused it, and my wireless network is achieved though the use of a wireless router and not a wireless card in my PC itself (big<\/span> difference, apparently). The instructions that come with the AirPort don’t consider this scenario, but after searching the Internet I found a\u00c2\u00a0posting from someone who has already installed AirPort on the same set-up, and who handily provided instructions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A couple of hours later (including half-a-dozen hard resets, two re-installations, a firmware upgrade, and a quick game of musical coax), and I was in business. So now I can play any of my (ripped-to-PC for the benefit of my iPod) CDs (and not just the 300 in my Pioneer PDF-27 multichanger) at the click of a button. More importantly – and the main justification I gave myself for getting the AirPort – is that I can now play 3WK<\/a>, my favourite Internet radio station, through my main stereo system. Outstanding! This just about compensates for the fact that I can no longer listen to 3WK at work, on account of management complaining that someone<\/em> (thankfully untraceable) was consuming half of the company’s bandwidth by streaming music off the Internet. Now all I need to do is get my remote-connection approved by my boss and I’ll be able work on my company laptop, from the comfort of my sofa, connected to work wirelessly through my own home network, whilst listening to 3WK the whole day long…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
